I will be joined by the extraordinary pianist Natalie Tenenbaum for a full performance of songs from the album, along with classical and popular tunes.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Play for P.I.N.K-the breast cancer research charity-and admission will be on a “free will donation” basis. More news to follow later!!

One such function took place recently at the Harvard Club of Boston and it was a lot of fun. Everyone there really looked after us well and the Great Hall in the club is as stunning a venue as you could ask for. The Club also put me on the cover of their magazine for the March issue and that was a huge honor.

During the gig a little girl came up to Natalie Tenenbaum, my extraordinarily gifted pianist, and presented her with a picture she had drawn. Then she ran back to her seat and got the one she had done of me! I was a singing alligator in the picture, and now it has pride of place on my fridge!

That Friday was opening day of the 2011 baseball season too so I got a few funny looks and a few comments were passed as I went for a run around the city wearing the shirt of a major rival team(two guesses!!)…I certainly won’t be making that mistake again!! Great city and great people, can’t wait to get back there. And a big thanks to everyone at the Harvard Club.

I managed to find plenty of reasons not to do it over the last few weeks so now, on a Saturday night with the television distractingly chirping in the corner, I’ll see how it goes…

March didn’t seem to be too busy when I was scheduling it last summer, with performances in Florida and New York pencilled in, so I wasn’t particularly worried. But then I took more engagements in Boston, New York and Washington DC for the first weekend of April, and also took on a role in a Steinbeck play(more on that again) to be performed a few weeks later back in New York. And that runs into a week of Easter performances, followed by a trip to Ireland. Quite quickly it became apparent that I was going to be extremely busy and it’s been something to relish. Though I am looking forward to a little respite in early May. More elaboration to follow!

A good friend of mine brought me as a guest to The Metropolitan Opera for a performance of Gluck’s Iphigenie en Tauride starring Susan Graham and my hero, Placido Domingo. I don’t go to The Met as much as I would like to so I jumped at this invitation. It was also my first opportunity to see Mr. Domingo in an opera and there was no way I could turn that down!

Unfortunately, Ms. Graham was unwell but her understudy Elizabeth Bishop was more than up to the task and sang for the second night in a row. It must be a weird feeling to cover a leading role…you live and breath it just like the lead, but you may not even get to perform and if you do get the call, are you torn between feeling happy for yourself and disappointed for the person? Hmmm…probably not! In a business as tough as opera I suppose you just have to be happy for each break and run with them when they arise!

The opera was great but being a tragedy it was heavy going in the first half. The second, though, was magical. The power, grace and stage presence of Mr. Domingo at the age of seventy was absolutely astounding. He stole the show as far as the audience was concerned and I had the thrill of going backstage to meet him for a quick handshake and a photo.

I like to think of myself as being a relatively calm and laid back guy but I was very nervous in meeting him. I’m sure he’s used to people saying stupid things when they meet him…I gushed something about sneaking into a dinner to meet him after the concert in Ireland (which I did along with a friend of mine whose advise was; “head back and chest out…look like we’re supposed to be here!”). I’m sure he’s had to listen to worse babbling though!
